Friends from the Médoc, the Graves, Sauternes, Saint-Emilion and Pomerol gathered on a sun-lit evening on Tuesday 29 June 2010 at Margaux Second Growth Chateau Rauzan-Segla to honour Jacques BOISSENOT. Chinese Bordeaux Guide, which was first published in 2000, was organiser and host. It was able to do this because of the generosity of Chateau Rauzan-Segla which provided the setting of its lovely grounds for the aperitif and its beautiful cellar as the atmosphere for the intimate dinner that followed. Regarded by many as Bordeaux's greatest living winemaker, Boissenot was accompanied by his lovely wife Anna-Marie. His son Eric (who works alongside his father in his consultancy) was also present. Those who came to pay tribute to Jacques Boissenot included chateau proprietors, winemakers, chateau administrators and the media including Jane ANSON of www.newbordeaux.com and a contributor to Decanter; James LAWTHER, author and consultant editor of Decanter; and, César COMPADRE, wine columnist for Sud Ouest newspaper. Alain TERRIER, retired winemaker of Champagnes Salon and Laurent Perrier was also present. Jean-Bernard DELMAS, presently in charge of Saint-Estephe Second Growth Chateau Montrose (and who was administrator of First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion from 1961 to 2003), gave a wonderfully witty and humorous speech in honour of Jacques Boissenot.
